Schedule

Winter 2008 Schedule. Keep an eye on this, it changes often.

Lab Equipment for Class

We'll be using csl-sparc00 through csl-sparc12 for hands-on admin portions of the class. These servers are running Debian Linux.

Wow! Too many people enrolled to use these. We are going to try giving each student their own virtual machine. Examples in class will be using CentOS 5, which is basically Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 with all of the Red Hat logos removed.

  • Virtual Machine setup -- We'll do a mostly default install of CentOS. Here's a "cheat sheet" for some of the questions you'll have to answer.
  • You'll be asigned a virtual machine (vm) in class. Remember the name. It'll be like cslvm99.csc.calpoly.edu.
  • Give me a day or so to provision your machine.
  • Use remote desktop (rdesktop) to access the VMware server, admin1.csc.calpoly.edu. Use your regular lab login.
  • If provisioned, you should be able to connect to admin1 with rdesktop.
  • On admin1, start the VirtualCenter Infrastructure Client (VIC). Use your regular lab login.
  • If provisioned, VIC will start, and you'll see the vm you were assigned.
  • From VIC, you can start, stop or fiddle with your vm.
