Rant about course web pages at Cuesta
<rant>
I don't care for the way Cuesta College hosts course web pages. They have (at least) three problems:
- Pages are not publicly accessible. If you aren't an enrolled student, you can't see them. Course web pages function as 'advertisements' for the courses. They should be publicly accessible. You should be able to google "cuesta cis 122" and get some valid hits. It appears that Cuesta just locked the catalog pages up, as well. You used to be able to get a catalog page. As of Jan 2009, they are gone, too. (Well, I guess you can wade through the gigantic pdf version of the catalog still.)
- You can't link to the pages, whether you are signed in or not. Even if you have a my.cuesta.edu account and you are currently signed in, you can't access a page via a link. You have to use the search tools. That's lame.
- Pages are transient. The pages may evaporate after the semester ends. This is a big deal, especially for part time instructors like me. I don't want to spend a lot of time on a course web page, only to have it disappear.
